1) "the US to not-so-subtly rattle its sabers at adversaries like Russia and China, claiming that the military has technology so advanced they couldn’t hope to compete."

Why would these 'phenomena' not also be appearing in China, Russia and anywhere else they fancy? Is the US government claiming that the (phenomena) are all ardent capitalists and fans of the oligarchy?

2) In my opinion, Jaques Vallee has come closest to getting to at least a credible theory to what is going on. He cites (for example) stories of contacts describing current encounters where 'oatcakes' are traded. The mythology of 'fairies' and 'goblins' also features such exchanges. So the implication is that 'UFO's or whatever else one wants to call them, have been a feature of human life on earth for as long as we have records, and are denizens of some kind of other dimension adjacent to ours. Of course there is much more collaborative detail in his books, but that idea seems quite plausible to me. I don't however, go along with his further thesis that these entities are conducting some kind of concerted manipulation of humanity, as over (at least) 5000 years, they don't seem to have achieved much.
